Free Canadian citizenship test practice

Pass the citizenship test first time — by knowing every topic cold.

Read Discover Canada in plain language, practise with fresh questions on every chapter, and take mock tests in the real format: 20 questions, 45 minutes, 15 to pass. No sign-up. No paywall. Your progress stays on your device.

Practice questions are original questions written from Discover Canada. They are not real IRCC test questions, and no practice app can guarantee a pass — readiness here means consistent strong mock scores across every topic.

How CitizenReady works

Four steps. Every topic. No surprises on test day.

Step 1

Read the guide, in plain language

Every chapter of Discover Canada summarised with the facts to memorise, the dates that trap people, and what has changed since the 2021 guide was printed — including the current oath to King Charles III.

Step 2

Practise every question

220 original practice questions across all 10 topic areas, plus chapter quizzes that cycle through the whole chapter without repeating, so you truly see every question and every topic.

Step 3

Take real-format mock tests

20 questions drawn from every chapter, 45-minute timer, flag questions for review, and a question palette — just like the real test. Every mock brings fresh, unseen questions first.

Step 4

Fix your weak spots

Missed questions go into a review deck until you answer them right twice. Your dashboard shows readiness by chapter, so you study what is actually weak — not what you already know.

What is on the test

Every topic in Discover Canada, covered

The test asks about rights and responsibilities, history, geography, economy, government, laws, and symbols. CitizenReady covers all of them — in the guide reader, in chapter quizzes, and in every mock test.

Chapters 1–2

Rights, responsibilities & who we are

Magna Carta, the Charter, the four freedoms, the six responsibilities, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and Canada's two official languages.

Chapters 3–4

History & modern Canada

From L'Anse aux Meadows to Confederation in 1867, the world wars, the Charter in 1982, and the Canada of today.

Chapters 5–7

Government, elections & justice

Parliament, how a bill becomes law, voting and the secret ballot, and the courts and police under the rule of law.

Chapters 8–10

Symbols, economy & regions

The flag, motto, and anthem; the three industries and the United States as largest trading partner; and the capital of every province and territory.

Common questions

Citizenship test questions, answered

How many questions are on the Canadian citizenship test?

The test has 20 questions. You need at least 15 correct answers to pass. Questions are multiple-choice or true-or-false, in English or French.

How long is the citizenship test?

The test is 45 minutes long. CitizenReady mock tests use the same 45-minute timer, with a 30-minute strict option if you want extra pressure while you practise.

What is the test based on?

Every test question is based on Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, the official IRCC study guide. CitizenReady practice questions are original questions written from that guide — they are not real test questions, which IRCC does not publish.

Who has to take the test?

Applicants aged 18 to 54 must take the knowledge test. Applicants 55 and older do not need to write the test, but still attend the citizenship ceremony.

What happens if I fail?

You have up to 3 chances to pass. If you do not pass after 3 attempts, IRCC will invite you to a hearing with a citizenship official.

Is CitizenReady really free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no paywall. Progress is saved on your own device. The optional fresh-question feature uses AI grounded in the guide; if it is unavailable, the full 220-question bank still works.
